Training


Bridgestone Mining Solutions Australia (BMSA) is a registered training organisation (RTO #90415). We offer Certificate II courses in tyre servicing and in-house tyre repair as well as independent units of competency that result in nationally recognised accreditation.

Our courses are run for BMSA employees as well as our constantly expanding customer base and can be undertaken at one of our three state of the art training facilities based in Perth WA, Mackay QLD and the Hunter Valley NSW.

Our accredited trainer assessors come from diverse industry backgrounds including engineering and education, and are considered experts in their field.

Accredited training for tyre servicing personnel

RII20215 Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations- Tyre Servicing for Heavy Duty Equipment

Tyre servicing for heavy duty equipment - 5 day course over 12 months (approximately 220 training hours) Comprising 9 units of competency (4 core and 5 elective) this course is necessary for personnel to conduct tyre servicing work on mine and quarry sites.RII20215 is an accredited qualification recognised within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF). The training and assessment covers tyre servicing for vehicles with rim sizes ranging from 16 inch to 63 inch.

RIISAM210D – Remove and fit wheel assemblies

This unit of competency (approximately 30 training hours) results in a Statement of Attainment and is partial completion of the RII20215 Certificate II. This training is targeted at maintenance personal, supervisors and plant mechanics. It is a necessary accreditation for personnel to be able to remove and fit wheel or rim assemblies safely from vehicles. It does not cover the removal and fitting of tyres to wheels or rims. To remove and fit tyres to wheels or rims, the RII20215 Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations - Tyre Servicing for Heavy Duty Equipment - must be completed.

RIIHAN201D - Operate a forklift (tyre handler) and

RIIHAN307D - Operate a vehicle loading crane (tyre handler)

These units are appropriate for those working in operational roles and relates to the National Standard for High Risk Work. Both have training hours of approximately 30 hours and they define the skills (performance) and knowledge required to operate a forklift and / or a vehicle loading crane in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries. It is a pre requisite that the student has a current high risk licence (LF / CV). A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is issued to students once completed.

Non - Accredited training for tyre servicing personnel

Heavy Duty off the Road Tyre Application / Operator Awareness – Open cut / Underground

These courses are suitable for anybody who is responsible for managing, operating, maintaining or working with off the road tyres in a mining environment. This is not limited purely to maintenance personnel. The courses can be invaluable to production and planning personnel to understand the limitations of tyres on mine vehicles. Content covers key areas including

  • Safe application of OTR tyres and wheels.
  • Safety guidelines when deflating and inflating tyres.
  • Getting real value from tyre and rim investment by extending product lifespan
  • Tyre and rim maintenance requirements.
  • Tyre and rim damage condition and the necessary precautions required to handle the problem with minimal risk.
  • Application of tyres and rims.
  • The function, design and manufacturing process for off the road tyres.
  • Assessing tyre reparability. 
  • Tyre structure
  • Reading sidewall identifications and type and tyre size designation
  • Major and minor damage identification
  • Structural damage identification
  • Identification of operator practices and how they influence tyre fatigue

These courses can be tailored to meet your needs and can be held over 1 or 2 days. All students receive a personalised Statement of Attendance at the conclusion of the course.

Other Training

BMSA can provide general briefings at pre start meetings and other suitable occasions outlining key points in tyre management for operators, production supervisors and maintenance staff on an as needed basis.
